Expectations
For Students
The expectation for neuropsychological testing and report writing is completion within four weeks from the start of testing. The referring physician from DuPage Medical Group will receive the report from our department.
Diagnostic practicum students usually spend fifteen to twenty hours a week on site, depending on the requirements of their graduate school program. The days on-site are individually arranged between the student and the supervisor. Students have intakes scheduled for them at times they are on-site, and are notified by their supervisor and the Psychology Department administrative assistant ahead of time. Some basic testing is done with every intake (i.e., Beck Scales, Mental Status exam, Connors Scales if appropriate).
Graduate students have an opportunity to learn a wide variety of neuropsychological and psychological assessment tests, and write up integrated batteries for a spectrum of ages from adolescent to elderly adults. Our Psychology Department at DuPage Medical Group practices and supports the traditional differentiating characteristic of psychologists from other mental health providers: we do psychological and neuropsychological testing.
For Supervisors
Graduate students have a minimum of one hour of supervision per week. At the beginning of the diagnostic practicum year, the supervisor will have the graduate student observe them while performing an intake/testing; then the supervisor will observe the student performing intake/testing; and when satisfied the graduate student can do an intake/testing, the graduate student performs intakes or testing on their own. At the end of the intake/testing, the graduate student will discuss their findings with their supervisor, and receive feedback. Graduate students will also sit in on the feedback sessions given to the patient after neuropsychological/psychological testing. |
