Board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, he has become a leader in the field of reconstructive cervical and lumbar spinal surgery with an emphasis on minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Paul has a rapidly growing reputation in the area of “lateral access surgery” to the lumbar spine. He has taught over 100 neurosurgeons and spinal surgeons from around the country as well as Asia and Europe. He was recently invited to speak at several teaching centers throughout England and has also appeared on the local news. Dr. Paul has become a favorite among the area’s physicians and families. He has treated patients from throughout the Chicagoland area and as far away as Asia.
Dr. Paul has been an award-winning researcher in genetic tissue engineering for degenerative disc disease and other spinal disorders. He has published his findings in major medical journals and presented at many national and regional medical conferences. More recently Dr. Paul’s research interests have turned to minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Paul is member of the charter class of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Chicago-Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Chicago Hospitals with a heavy emphasis in spine. Dr Paul continued his training at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals in an intensive and world renowned fellowship in Spinal Surgery under the mentorship of several highly acclaimed surgeons–some of whom have and are currently heads of the major spinal research societies.
Dr. Paul serves as Chair of the Spinal Surgery Section at Edward Hospital and is medical director of The Spine Center of DuPage Medical Group. He is also a member of the North American Spine Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a teaching member for the Society of Lateral Access Surgery. He is also a charter member of the Lumbar Spine Research Society. He is affiliated with Good Samaritan and Edward Hospitals.
